Responsibilities

* $10,000 SIGN ON BONUS!* 

The Lead Sonographer is responsible for clinical supervision and on-going clinical education of Sonographers.  Must be able to effectively train new hires and oversee Quality Assurance for back office of designated clinic.  Facilitates on-site training and subject matter clinical expertise to optimize patient safety and outcomes while driving clinical standards.  Must be proficient in performing abdominal and peripheral vascular ultrasound exams.

 

Lead Sonographer

  • Actively engages in training and onboarding of newly hired sonographers and provides final assessment and sign off with guidance from the technical director.
  • Provides clinical perspective to technical director, vascular practice manager and/or director of vascular operations sonographer disciplinary matters.
  • Performs and communicates quarterly peer review audits and feedback to all assigned sonographers.
  • Acts as the on-site technical expert for all ultrasound exams and equipment. Ultrasound exams include:
  • Upper extremity arterial, upper extremity venous, dialysis fistula, lower extremity arterial, lower extremity venous insufficiency, aortoiliac, abdominal venous, and carotid ultrasound exams.
  • Ensures departmental ultrasound equipment is maintained in safe operating condition and contacts the department as appropriate. Reports any equipment issues to supervisor.
  • Creates schedule for sonographers to meet clinic staffing needs.
  • Ensures department schedule is appropriate for patient volume and recommends adjustments as necessary.
  • Provides guidance and feedback on best practice standards and workflow optimization based on clinical and medical leadership guidelines.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills and makes independent decisions as needed.
  • Actively participates in department meetings, huddles, and in-services.

Sonographer

  • Adheres to administrative and clinical standard operating procedures.
  • Adheres to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards in wearing appropriate PPE, cleaning, and preparing rooms for procedures.
  • Performs patient evaluation and assessment prior to ultrasound examination · Completes all appropriate reports following each patient interaction, following UVVC written ultrasound protocols.
  • Performs ordered duplex ultrasound examination and other imaging studies according to UVVC written ultrasound protocols.
  • Maintains an acceptable average score for all Quality Improvement Peer Review audits, performed quarterly.
  • Demonstrates compliance and improvement quarter over quarter, meeting UVVC goals and IAC requirements.
  • Ultrasound exams are performed so the physician can provide each patient with a safe and effective treatment plan.
  • Submits diagnostic findings that accurately reflect each patient’s disease process.
  • Within the limits of safety, adhere to the standard time allotments for each type of scan in order to maintain the smooth and efficient flow of patients throughout the course of the scheduled day.
  • Maintains equipment to ensure continued and effective operations.
  • Builds rapport with patients by instilling a high level of confidence in our providers’ ability to fully address their medical concerns.
  • Works with team in developing efficiencies that will allow clinics to increase patient flow while maintaining excellent quality care standards
  • Actively participates in Time Out Process.
  • Checks reports daily to ensure transmission of all studies.

Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)

  • Assists sonographers and physicians in providing HR with CME certificates.
  • Performs quarterly peer review of sonographer studies based on quality improvement program.
  • Actively participates in monthly sonographer leadership committee calls.
  • Actively participates in bi-annual quality improvement meetings.
  • Performs and submits QI audits to IAC annually for accreditation renewal.

Miscellaneous

  • Identifies areas of improvement in clinics with regards to quality improvement, safety, and compliance.
  • Performs monthly site evaluations using the standards of care clinic form. Communicates findings in person with staff and electronically to clinic management, clinical and medical teams.
  • Collaborates with directors on needed safety and compliance improvements, education, and training needs in their clinic.

Qualifications

  • RVT or RVS certification required.
  • RPhS certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience working as a vascular sonographer strongly preferred with experience in lower extremity venous (deep venous and superficial venous insufficiency), lower extremity arterial, aortoiliac, abdominal venous dialysis fistula, and carotid duplex.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn, grow, and maintain knowledge of industry standards by joining groups, attending meetings, reading journals, and/or performing research.
  • Outstanding interpersonal consultative skills.
  • Strong teaching acumen with focus on practical learning.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload, multi-task and manage a diverse mix of responsibilities and challenges.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work within and outside of traditional business hours.
  • Strong vascular ultrasound and healthcare best practices knowledge base.
  • Willingness to expand education and maintain ever changing healthcare industry standards.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (AHA) preferred.
  • Dependable; able to meet reliable attendance and punctuality standards.
