Responsibilities

The Clinical Supervisor is a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) who is responsible for clinical supervision and on-going clinical education of Medical Assistants and Sonographers. Must be able to effectively train new hires and oversee Quality Assurance for back office of all clinics in assigned region. Facilitates on-site training and subject matter clinical expertise to optimize patient safety and outcomes while driving clinical standards.

 

Medical Assistants and Surgical Technicians

  • Evaluates training and, along with region medical director, provides final assessment and sign off.
  • Assists in identifying and training regional preceptors.
  • Provides clinical perspective to Market Manager for MA or CST disciplinary matters.
  • Provides regular oversight, using Standards of Case – Medical Assistant form, performs timely and measurable feedback on clinical skillset, safety measures, and compliance.
  • Performs and communicates initial and yearly competencies as well as clinical oversight for MA and CST including:
    o Medication Safety
    o Sterile Technique
    o Vital Signs
    o Autoclave use and maintenance (including verifying spores test)
  • Provides guidance and feedback on Best Practice standards and workflow optimization based on clinical and medical leadership guidelines.

Sonographers

  • Evaluates training and, along with regional medical director, provides final assessment and sign off.
  • Assists in identifying and training regional preceptors.
  • Provides clinical perspective to Market Manager for sonographer disciplinary matters.
  • Performs and communicates quarterly Peer Review audit feedback to all assigned sonographers.
  • Provides regular oversight, using Standards of Case – Sonographer form, performs timely and measurable feedback on clinical skillset, safety measures, and compliance.
  • Performs and communicates initial and yearly competencies as well as clinical oversight for sonographers, including:
    o Ankle Brachial Index (ABI)
  • Provides guidance and feedback on Best Practice, workflow optimization, and protocols adherence based on clinical and medical leadership guidelines.
  • Works with Market Managers on performing candidate interviews to assess for clinical viability.

Equipment and Maintenance

  • Provides guidance to sonographers on the repair and replacement of ultrasound and ablation equipment as needed.

Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)

  • Assist sonographers and physicians in providing HR with CME certificates.
  • Performs quarterly Peer Review of sonographer studies, based on Quality Improvement Program.
  • Actively participates in monthly Sonographer Leadership committee calls.
  • Actively participates in bi-yearly quality improvement meetings.

Miscellaneous

  • Identifies areas that need improvement in clinics with regards to quality improvement, safety, and compliance.
  • Performs monthly site visits using the Standards of Care – Clinic form, communicates findings in person with staff and sends via email to clinic, management, clinical, and medical team.
  • Collaborates with Directors of Training and Education on needed safety and compliance improvements, education, and training needs in their region.

  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with UVVC policies, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other applicable laws and regulations. PHI is a top priority of our organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • RVT, RVS, or RPhS certification
  • Obtain RPhS certification within 6 months of appointment.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (AHA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science preferred.
  • 3+ years working as a vascular sonographer preferred.
  • Phlebology ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn, grow, and maintain knowledge of industry standards by joining groups, attending meetings, reading journals, and performing research.
    • Suggested organizations: Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), and the American Venous and Lymphatic Society (AVLS)
  • Outstanding interpersonal consultative skills.
  • Strong teaching acumen with focus on practical learning.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload, multi-task and manage a diverse mix of responsibilities and challenges.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work within and outside of traditional business hours.
  • Strong vascular ultrasound and healthcare Best Practices knowledge base.
  • Willingness to expand education and maintain ever changing healthcare industry standards.
